Acorn award 2011
About two months ago I was notified by the Caterer magazine that I was one of the lucky 30 young professionals who had won an Acorn award for 2011, and I was sworn to secrecy. The two months seemed to drag by as I was excited about telling people and also meeting the other Acorns at Coworth park.
The weekend finely came round on the 22nd of may. I arrived at Coworth park on the Sunday morning checked in and was amazed at how stunning it is. All of us slightly nervous acorns met over a nice light lunch, the nerves went as we were split into teams and broke the ice with team building activities. The activities included quick cricket, lazer clay pigeon shooting, semaphore, archery, human table football and duck herding (yes you can herd ducks!!). All these activitys were great fun and helped us get to know each other, huge thank you to Team spirit for running the events.
After the events we had a chance to enjoy the room before heading to John Campbell at Coworth park. A great meal was enjoyed and then a few to many drinks were definatly enjoyed. I am passing most of the blame too Olly Rouse for my huge hangover as he forced theTruffle vodka and, slow gin in my hand, ok its not really his fault i am easily talked into things ( Olly "do you want to try this truffle vodka"? Me "yes please").
Next day I woke in George Bloggs bed!!! Fully clothed i may add, clutching a gin and tonic with no idea at the time where I was, fortunatly it was only a short stumble to my room next door. Following this was a bleary eyed photo shoot for the magazine at ten in the morning.
After a bit of rest we had a formal presentation of the award and a nice lunch with our nominators. After the lunch was a inspirational and poignant speach from Simon Hulstone giving an overview of his career to date.
Thank you to all of the acorns and everyone at the Caterer and unilever for making this a special weekend to remember.
